Canadian Water Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Aquatic Life - Nitrate Ion

چکیده

Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment, 2012 he nitrate ion (NO3) (CAS No. 14797-55-8, atomic mass 62.0049 g·mol) is the most oxidized form of nitrogen (N) present in the environment with an oxidation state of +5 (NRC 1978). It is the conjugate base of nitric acid (HNO3), a strong acid which is completely dissociated in solution (NRC 1978). The nitrate salts of all common metals (e.g. NaNO3, KNO3, Ca(NO3)2, AgNO3) are highly soluble in water, while the resulting free nitrate ion is chemically unreactive as it has little tendency to form coordination complexes with other metal ions in solution (NRC 1978).

his fact sheet provides a summary of a review by the CCME Soil Quality Guidelines Task Group (SQGTG) of the implications of propylene glycol (PG) releases to Canadian soil environments. Following a review of the releases, fate and effects of PG in soils, the SQGTG opted not to develop Canadian soil quality guidelines at this time. Nonetheless, releases of PG to the environment can pose serious ...

Canadian Water Quality Guidelines for the Protection of Aquatic Life - Dissolved Gas Supersaturation

issolved gas supersaturation (DGS) is a condition that occurs when the partial pressures of atmospheric gases in solution exceed their respective partial pressures in the atmosphere. Individual atmospheric dissolved gases (oxygen, nitrogen, and trace gases such as argon and carbon dioxide) can often be supersaturated without adverse effects on aquatic and marine organisms. When the sum of the p...

Nitrogen pollution: an assessment of its threat to amphibian survival.

The potential for nitrate to affect amphibian survival was evaluated by examining the areas in North America where concentrations of nitrate in water occur above amphibian toxicity thresholds. Nitrogen pollution from anthropogenic sources enters bodies of water through agricultural runoff or percolation associated with nitrogen fertilization, livestock, precipitation, and effluents from industr...
